IDF – East Doc platform Project Market

"English teacher" is selected for the East Doc Platform Project Market. The event is held in Prague on 8-10 March, 2012.

Project Market is established in order to enforce networking activities and grant filmmakers with an easy access to one-to-one meetings with commissioning editors, buyers, programmers and sales agents. It is part of the brand new umbrella event titled East Doc Platform organized by Institute of Documentary film in Prague. They support creative documentary projects and completed films from Central and Eastern Europe. Apart from project market, filmmakers with documentaries in all stages of development are selected to be part of other traditional IDF activities like East European Forum, Doc Launch and East Silver.

Eight Documentary film experts were mentoring filmmakers from different countries on their new documentary film projects during the one week intensive training in Amsterdam. The tutor of Artefact Production team for the project "English teacher" was Danish film director Janus Metz, author of the outstanding documentary film "Armadillo."

Apart from individual sessions with different mentors like Carmen Cobos (producer, the Netherlands), Kate Townsend (Executive Producer BBC Storyville, UK), Peter Wintonick (producer/ director, Canada), Audrius Stonys (Director, Lithuania), Janus Metz (Director, Denmark), Jesper Osmund (Editor, Denmark), the program also hosted a series of lectures with Janus Metz talking about structuring the story and Marjoleine Boonstra about the visual aspects of storytelling.

Altzaney on the LIDF 2011

LIDF is the UK’s largest independent documentary festival providing a platform for radical and groundbreaking output from around the globe. In 2011 LIDF celebrates its fifth year with its most extensive programme to date running at venues across London from 13 May – 28 May. Altzaney will be screened on 23 May 2011, 6:30 pm at the Horse Hospital, Russell square.

“Artefact Production” team at the Berlinale Talent campus 2011

“Artefact Production” team is selected to participate in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2011,with a new project “English Teacher,” a documentary film in development by Nino Orjonikidze and Vano Arsenishvili. Participants were selected from over 3900 applicants of 141 countries.

"Altzaney" is officially selected for International competition of the 52nd International Leipzig Festival for documentary and animated films.

"Judging from the number of wrinkles, Altzaney is very old. Her narrow eyes shine with wisdom and goodness. Even while laboriously working on all kinds of chores, deeply bent or on her knees, she radiates a great inner dignity. She is an authority in the small Georgian village. People always call her if there is anything to sort out or any dispute to be settled. She often intercedes in marriage affairs, which the families delicately negotiate according to the old traditions. At first, everyone pretends that it is all about the welfare of the bride and whether the farms will be well matched, but in the end it is only the price that decides the outcome. In the Georgian directors' film, the camera often dwells on Altzaney’s face as she focuses on trying to find the right diplomatic approach to some negotiation, for hers is not a simple role. To all intents and purposes, the ancient patriarchal structures and a deep religious feeling reign supreme here. The director manages to capture a few passing comments which show that Altzaney herself knows best that she is not a saint. She is just needed. This makes for a touching portrait, but also an ethnographic look at the workings of a village community which follows rules that are not from our age."
